President William Ruto sparked loud cheers in Maralal after taking a direct swipe at his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and other opposition figures allegedly plotting a United Opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing residents during a public rally, Ruto dismissed the opposition’s reported power-sharing plan, saying the country cannot be divided among a few leaders meeting in hotels.
“Kuna wanaume tano wameketi chini wanagawana Kenya. Mmoja ana 50 per cent, mwingine 20 per cent. Hii Kenya sio yenu, ni ya hawa Wakenya wote.
Wacheni madharau na kiburi!” Ruto declared, triggering wild applause and chants from the crowd.
Reports had earlier suggested that the proposed opposition lineup would front Wiper boss as the coalition’s presidential candidate, deputized by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was allegedly slotted for the Prime Minister role, while Eugene Wamalwa was proposed as National Assembly Speaker and the PLP Party leader for Senate Speaker.
Interestingly, Rigathi Gachagua, who recently fell out with President Ruto, was reportedly not given a defined position but was promised a 50 per cent share in government if the coalition succeeded.
