Former Roots Party running mate Justina Wamae has called on Mbeere North residents to focus on candidates’ leadership abilities rather than their comedic appeal ahead of the November 27 by-election.

Wamae highlighted that while humour may attract attention, it does not equate to effective governance.

In a post on X, she pointed to Newton Kariuki, popularly known as Karis, whose humorous phrases like “Muthende mwi” have gained him popularity.

Wamae cautioned that voters should not let entertainment overshadow the candidate’s record in public service, questioning Kariuki’s performance as a sitting MCA.

She drew parallels with Embu County, where voters’ focus on humour allegedly turned Senator Mundigi into a public joke.

Wamae emphasised that relying solely on wit can backfire, urging aspirants to demonstrate competence and a clear vision for their constituencies.

The former presidential running mate encouraged other candidates, including Leonard Muthende, Duncan Mbui, Albert Njeru, Rev Isaac Ngiri, Reuben Kamathuu, Simon Waiharo, Daniel Ireri, and Lawrence Ireri, to take public debates seriously.

She stressed that constituents deserve leaders capable of oversight, legislation, and representation in the National Assembly.

Wamae further underlined that election campaigns should not end with votes but continue through accountable and effective leadership.

She urged voters to make informed decisions based on candidates’ ability to deliver on promises rather than their ability to entertain.

The Mbeere North by-election has intensified political activity, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua campaigning for Kariuki while Deputy President Kithure Kindiki backs Leonard Muthende.

Both national leaders have mobilised support across the constituency, reflecting the high stakes of the contest.

As the by-election approaches, Wamae’s message stresses that Mbeere North residents should weigh candidates’ track records and governance plans.

Her advice positions performance, accountability, and serious leadership as key determinants for the upcoming vote.
