Tension ran high in Emuhaya after supporters of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba clashed during the burial of ODM vice secretary for the Emuhaya branch, Joram Atolwa.
The incident took place at Mukhombe Primary School grounds, where leaders and residents had gathered to pay their last respects.
The disagreement was linked to the growing political rivalry between the two leaders. Both Osotsi and Omboko are preparing for the 2027 Vihiga gubernatorial race, and each camp is trying to build early support.
Their competition spilled into the funeral setting, turning the event into a dramatic show of political tension.
Trouble began when Senator Osotsi used his speech to challenge Omboko’s leadership record.
His remarks sparked anger among Omboko’s supporters, who saw the comments as an attack on their preferred candidate.
Within minutes, pushing and shouting escalated into physical confrontations. The chaotic scene forced Senator Osotsi to pause his address as local leaders and security personnel tried to calm the crowd.
When MP Omboko took the microphone, he defended his development work in Emuhaya and assured his supporters that his bid for the governor’s seat remained firm.
His remarks drew loud reactions from both sides, showing just how deep the rivalry has become.
Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo stepped in to urge both leaders to exercise restraint.
He reminded them that political contests should not interfere with public peace or disrupt community events.
He also cautioned young people in the area against allowing politicians to influence them into violence, noting that the impact of such actions often falls hardest on them.
During the event, Senator Osotsi also raised concerns about national government promises that he said remain unfulfilled.
He pointed to the stalled Luanda Market project and pending commitments on local hospitals, road expansion, and water connections. He argued that these delays continue to hurt residents who depend on improved services.
