Trans Nzoia Governor has accused President William Ruto’s government of orchestrating attacks on him, following a violent incident during his campaign in Bungoma County.

The attack occurred on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Kabuchai, where his convoy was reportedly fired upon.

During the same violence, the home of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga was also vandalised by unidentified assailants.

Speaking after the attack, the governor described the incident as shocking and barbaric.

He questioned how such violence could take place under a government that is supposed to guarantee citizens’ safety.

“This government has been persecuting me for a while now. They know if our people get enlightened, Kenya will never be the same again,” he said.

Drawing on his experience as a former regional commissioner, he said he understands how security and firearms are supposed to be managed.

He expressed disbelief that leaders campaigning freely in their constituencies could face such attacks.

“I’m wondering, as leaders who have the right to assemble while campaigning, do we still have a country? These attacks mean Kenya has no government at all,” he added.

The governor argued that the attacks were politically motivated, aimed at intimidating him and his supporters.

He said that the government appears to be targeting those who challenge its policies and mobilize citizens to engage in political matters.

Residents of Kabuchai expressed fear over the escalation of violence, with many questioning the effectiveness of security agencies in protecting civilians.

The vandalism of the MP’s house has further raised concerns about the safety of political leaders during campaigns.
