The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has called on ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to stay away from political fights and instead focus on keeping the Orange Democratic Movement strong and united.
Atwoli made the remarks in a statement on his official X account on Tuesday, October 28.
According to Atwoli, this is a very delicate moment for the party after the loss of former party leader Raila Odinga. He described Raila as the glue that held ODM together for many years.
Without him, Atwoli believes that only cooperation and respect among party leaders can maintain the power and influence ODM has built over time.
Atwoli encouraged Sifuna to act with maturity and calmness as he now plays a bigger role in leading the party.
He noted that political fights within the party will only weaken ODM at a time when it needs stability the most.
He urged Sifuna to honor Raila’s legacy by promoting unity, consultation, and teamwork among members and top officials.
He also praised Sifuna for reading the recent ODM statement while standing alongside Raila’s elder brother, Oburu Odinga.
Atwoli said the picture of the two together showed leadership and wisdom.
He warned that those who might push Sifuna to create unnecessary divisions inside the party do not have ODM’s best interests at heart.
Atwoli reminded ODM leaders that Raila spent decades building a movement that brought together people from all walks of life.
He argued that protecting that legacy is not just a responsibility for one person but for everyone who believed in Raila’s vision.
ODM supporters across the country also expect the party to continue championing fairness, democracy, and national unity, even after Raila’s departure.
