Sifuna dismissed the purported plot as a political gimmick that ultimately failed, reiterating that he remains firmly in office as the party’s SG.
In his characteristic fiery style, Sifuna told the crowd that the President had “threatened” to convene a special meeting of ODM’s founding members with the intention of “dealing with” him.
“Kuna jamaa anaitwa Ruto alikuwa amenitisha ati anafanya mikutano ya Founder Members wa ODM kudeal na Edwin Sifuna,” Sifuna said, sparking laughter and applause. “Bado Sifuna ni Katibu ama si Katibu?”
The remarks come days after the high-profile ODM@20 celebratory dinner, an event meant to honor the party’s founders and reflect on two decades of political influence.
The gathering had fueled speculation about internal reorganization and looming leadership changes, with Sifuna’s position among those rumored to be at stake.
Sifuna, however, dismissed such speculation as wishful thinking driven by external forces uncomfortable with his bold political style.
He insisted that ODM’s leadership remains intact and united, and that no external actor—especially one from a competing political formation—has any authority to dictate the party’s internal affairs.
The ODM SG maintained that his focus remains on strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections, including mobilizing grassroots structures and defending the party from what he termed “state-sponsored destabilization.”
He further accused Kenya Kwanza leaders of attempting to manipulate opposition dynamics through backdoor tactics, saying ODM had grown too resilient to be shaken by political theatrics.
“ODM is not a party you can intimidate into submission,” Sifuna declared.
“Twenty years later, we are stronger, wiser, and more prepared for the battles ahead.”
Sifuna’s comments now add a fresh twist to the simmering rivalry between the opposition and the ruling coalition, setting the stage for heightened political exchanges in the coming months.
