Governor James Orengo used celebrations marking the ODM party’s 20th anniversary in Mombasa to issue a sharp critique of the Kenya Kwanza administration, asserting that recent political maneuvering shows desperation from President William Ruto’s camp.

Orengo said emerging behaviour within the political arena suggests some individuals are attempting to position ODM as if it is dependent on the government, yet the reality reflects the opposite.

According to him, the ruling side has increasingly sought relevance from ODM at a time when public frustration over unmet promises continues to rise.

During the anniversary event, ODM leaders highlighted the party’s role in shaping Kenya’s democratic journey, emphasizing resilience amid shifting political alliances.

Orengo noted that ODM’s national presence and long-standing grassroots networks remain intact, making the party a crucial force ahead of the 2027 elections. The gathering also served as a moment to rally supporters, reaffirm internal unity, and counter efforts by rival camps to lure influential figures from the party.

The Mombasa celebration underscored ODM’s intent to maintain a firm opposition stance while positioning itself as a credible alternative to the current government’s governance record.
