Kasmuel Speaks Out After ODM Clarifies Its Youth Leadership

ODM youth activist Kasmuel McOure has publicly dismissed claims that he is seeking the position of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League President, just days after the party clarified the matter.

His remarks come amid confusion triggered by a document that circulated during ODM’s 20th Anniversary celebrations listing him among newly appointed party leaders.

The controversy began on Saturday, November 15, when ODM issued an official statement distancing itself from the informal publication.

The party stressed that Johnmark Ketorah is the legitimate President of the ODM Youth League and warned members to ignore any misleading reports.

“The President of the ODM Youth League is Honourable Johnmark Ketorah. Ignore any publication circulating containing misleading information,” ODM announced.

The informal list had caused uncertainty within the party, with some supporters assuming that Kasmuel had taken over the youth leadership role. ODM’s clarification forced Kasmuel to break his silence and address the speculation directly.

Speaking on Tuesday, November 18, the activist stated that he was not chasing titles within ODM and had no intention of undermining the party’s official structures.

According to him, his commitment to ODM is driven by loyalty and a desire to contribute—not the pursuit of leadership posts.

“There is no work within the ODM party that I consider too small for me. When you join ODM, you come face-to-face with the labour it takes to run a movement, especially when you love it,” he said.

Kasmuel emphasised that he does not view any task as beneath him and rejected claims that he was positioning himself for a higher role. Instead, he urged party members to focus on service delivery rather than personal ambition.

“Let no pretender of convenience imagine that there is any task I would consider beneath me. In ODM, we do not chase titles. We ask one thing only—how best can we deliver for our people?” he added.

The activist also stated that he prefers maintaining a low profile within the party and allowing those in official leadership positions to exercise their authority without unnecessary competition or political noise.

He noted that while he has been actively supporting the party for years, he has not been officially appointed to any senior role.

Despite his humility, Kasmuel urged ODM leaders to pay closer attention to emerging young talents within the party.

He said many committed young people work tirelessly behind the scenes without recognition, yet they are crucial to the party’s growth.

“Our party needs workers, people who defend it on every front. It needs the vim and vigour of youth. It needs consensus builders. It needs volunteers,” he argued.

Kasmuel has long been associated with ODM, and his influence among youth supporters continues to grow.

Last year, he received a political boost when Raila Odinga appointed him to the ODM youth and student league, a move that enhanced his visibility and reputation.

A photo shared on October 7, 2024, showed Kasmuel posing alongside Raila Odinga and other youth leaders, signalling his rising prominence in party circles.

However, he maintains that his loyalty is rooted in ideology, not personal advancement.
