The race to the next general election is taking shaping, with the opposition expected to lock horns with the government at the polls.

Key members of the opposition are DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Deputy Party leader Dr. Fred Matiang'i, DP Party leader Justin Muturi and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembea.

This team is expected to engage widely before they settle on one candidate to be their flag bearer. However, some if them could exit before the next general election. One of them is Dr. Fred Matiang'i.

The former Interior CS and Jubilee Party could get tired at the constant attacks Gachagua and his cronies have been direction at them.

Gachagua on Sunday, 16 November said Jubilee is a red wheelbarrow by which he meant: the party is working together with UDA which has a wheelbarrow as a symbol.

This is after Jubilee candidate in Narok Ward by election, Joshua Ole Kaputah withdrew from the race in favour of UDA's Robert Kudate.

However, Jubilee or any other opposition party officials did not complain when DCP candidate in Banisa constituency by-election stepped down and threw his weight behind UDA candidate.

In fact Gachagua claimed that President William Ruto is buying United Opposition candidates.

Initially, it was reported that Gachagua wants Fred Matiang'i to be the Prime Minister in case the opposition forms the government. According to the report, Gachagua is planning to support Kalonzo -Natembea ticket for the presidential seat.

This means the former DP is singlehandedly locking out Jubilee candidate Fred Matiang'i from contesting for the top seat under the banner of the United Opposition. At least, all the opposition principals should engage and arrive at an agreement together.

Matiang'i could fail to stand the humiliations and bolt out of the opposition camp. Some political observers say the ex-Interior CS should leave the opposition and chart his own path.
