Former Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has called on young Kenyans, especially the Gen Z generation, to embrace unity and avoid divisive regional politics.
Speaking at a public gathering today Sunday, Ngunjiri firmly declared, “Sitaki siasa ya Mulima!” which means, “I don’t want mountain politics.”
According to the outspoken politician, regional fights in politics, particularly those tied to the Mount Kenya region, have slowed down the country’s progress for many years.
He argued that Kenya is greater than any single community or region.
“Kenya is bigger than Murima. Let us stop tribal or regional politics. It is time we move together as one people,” Ngunjiri said.
The former legislator also turned his attention to the youth, many of whom have recently become very active in politics through protests and online campaigns.
While he admitted that it is right for citizens to question poor leadership, he insisted that insults and disrespect toward leaders only create more problems.
“Leaders are placed in their positions by God. If you attack them without reason, you might be going against God’s will,” he warned.
Ngunjiri encouraged Gen Zs to use their voices wisely. He said that instead of spending energy insulting leaders, young people should focus on constructive actions such as praying for the country and pushing for positive change.
At the same time, the former Bahati MP distanced himself from revenge politics, saying he now supports peace and reconciliation.
He noted that President William Ruto’s government has recently appointed former critics to key positions, a move that has been met with mixed reactions.
For Ngunjiri, such steps are a sign of maturity and an opportunity for the country to heal.
“Some of these leaders were our opponents, but now they are working with the government. That is okay. Kenya needs everyone on board to move forward,” he explained.
In his closing remarks, Ngunjiri gave a special message to young people:
“Let us build, not destroy. Respect leaders, pray for our country, and reject divisive siasa ya Murima.”
