As per the publication, despite the fact that President William Ruto has distanced himself in the by-elections campaigns, he has set the upcoming test for potent voices in his administration, as a way of gauging his popularity and influence in the Mt Kenya, Nyanza and Western voting blocs.
As a result, the source indicated that should the Opposition alliance go ahead to secure victories in the three regions, Hon Kithure Kindiki, Musalia Mudavadi governor Gladys Wanga may have to explain why they failed to bring the victory home despite the support from the government.
In regards to the matter, political analysts have also argued that President Ruto is likely to use the upcoming contest to gauge his Deputy, on whether he will pick him as his running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections or whether he should drop him and front a surprising name from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
As per the analysts, a win for UDA in Mbeere North constituency would strengthen Kindiki's chances of being picked as Ruto's running mate in 2027 as it would mean William Ruto still commands enormous influence in the slippery Mt Kenya region.
However, a lose in the upcoming by elections would place the DP between a rock and a hard place and his chances of being fronted for the country's second top of seat may have to be re- looked by his boss President William Ruto.
