Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has revealed that a powerful new political team is coming together with one main goal, to remove President William Ruto from power in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political gathering, Wamalwa said the group includes several well-known leaders who helped bring the late President Mwai Kibaki to power in 2002.
He said they are now rebuilding that strong team spirit, similar to the famous NARC wave that ended the long KANU rule.
According to Wamalwa, the recently ousted CS Justin Muturi and former CS Fred Matiang'i have joined a strong opposition team led by Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua to send home President William Ruto in 2027.
“This team is coming together again. Justin Muturi has joined us. Fred Matiang’i is also coming on board. Martha Karua is already part of the team. We are rebuilding the NARC moment for 2027. We have learned from the past and we know Ruto will try to divide us, but we’re ready.” he stated
Wamalwa added that the team, which includes Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, plans to face Ruto in a united front and win in the first round of voting.
“We want Kenyans to have hope. Even though people are suffering from high taxes and more are coming in June, change is possible," he added
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i appears to be gaining support within the group. Jubilee Party branch leaders have already endorsed him as their preferred presidential candidate for 2027.
This endorsement positions him as a top contender for the Azimio coalition's flagbearer position, setting the stage for stiff competition within the alliance.
Matiang’i has also made moves of his own. In July 2024, he signed a consultancy deal with a Canadian lobbying firm, Dickens & Madson, to support his bid for the presidency.
