Kileleshwa MCA and well-known blogger Robert Alai has launched a strong criticism against Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, describing him as an overrated leader who has failed to bring real change to the lakeside county.
Through a post on his Facebook page, Alai said that Governor Nyong’o has not delivered meaningful results since taking office.
According to him, the governor’s only notable achievement was unseating former Governor Jack Ranguma.
Beyond that, he claimed, Nyong’o has not related well with ordinary people and has ignored the struggles faced by the poor in Kisumu.
Alai further accused the Kisumu county administration of spending very little on development projects.
He compared Kisumu to Nairobi, saying that both counties have a habit of investing less in real development despite having many resources at their disposal.
To him, this shows a lack of commitment in addressing pressing issues such as job creation, housing, and support for vulnerable communities.
The MCA also dismissed claims that Kisumu has become cleaner under Nyong’o’s leadership.
Alai questioned those who praise the city’s cleanliness, saying Kisumu has always been clean.
“Visitors to Kisumu say the city is clean. Please tell me when Kisumu was ever dirty.
Tell me,” he wrote in his post, challenging the popular narrative that the governor transformed the city’s image.
Alai ended his remarks with the Luo phrase “awacho ayueyo”, which directly translates to “I have spoken my truth.”
This expression, often used to close a firm statement, signaled that he stood by his words and was not afraid of the reactions that might follow.
Governor Nyong’o has often received praise both in Kenya and abroad for beautifying Kisumu and positioning it as a modern regional hub, especially after hosting major events such as the Africities Summit.
His administration has been credited with improving roads, drainage, and city planning.
However, Alai’s comments show that not everyone shares this positive view.
The post is expected to spark heated debate, especially among Kisumu residents and political observers.
