A cloud of sorrow hangs over Nanyuki following the tragic death of Risper Faith, a 20-year-old woman whose life was brutally cut short in a lodging allegedly by her baby daddy, Elvis Ndegwa, aged 21.
According to her father, Risper left home at around noon after calling him at work to ask for 200 shillings for transport to town.
He returned home at 6 p.m. but was alarmed when she was still not back.
Repeated calls to her phone went unanswered as the line was off, deepening their worry.
The following morning, he visited KFC at FIA Mall, a place his daughter loved, but she was nowhere to be found.
Later that evening, as he planned to report her missing, he decided to check a nearby hospital and mortuary just to clear his doubts.
To his disbelief, the mortuary attendant confirmed that an unclaimed body matching his daughter’s description had been brought in by police on Sunday night.
Investigations revealed that Risper had checked into 1950 Lodging in Nanyuki town with a man believed to be Elvis. They had not made an upfront payment and promised to pay later.
After two hours of silence, the lodging manager went to check and found Risper’s lifeless body. The man had disappeared.
Police investigations showed the lodging had no CCTV cameras and had not recorded their details since payment was not made.
The father later returned with a photo of Elvis, whom the receptionist confirmed as the man seen with Risper.
It was later discovered that the two had a history of domestic violence, and though a previous assault case had reached court, Risper withdrew it on February 10.
Elvis is now on the run, and police are still searching for him.
