On September 29, 2014, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited Kinango in Kwale County for a political rally aimed at promoting his Okoa Kenya Initiative.
This initiative sought to amend the Kenyan Constitution to address several critical issues, when Raila Odinga, was struck on the back with a walking stick by an elderly man named Lengo Karisa Mudzomba (also referred to as Lengo Mdzombo).
The man, a farm laborer, reportedly became upset while dancing at the event, possibly due to his wife dancing suggestively nearby, and charged at Odinga and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, hitting both before being restrained by security.
Mudzomba was briefly arrested but released after Odinga intervened at the police station. He later sought forgiveness from Odinga in 2020, expressing regret and requesting a formal reconciliation.
The event gained attention for its unusual drama amid the rally's push for constitutional amendments via referendum.
The old senior bachelor who has been in hiding for the last six years in Kilifi confessed that he does not understand what pushed him to assault Raila and Mvurya like the primary school headmasters of old.
He is now crying foul over abandonment by Non Governmental Organization, Haki Africa.
“Haki Africa took me to an office in Mombasa where I met someone but they did not take me to hospital for the treatment. I wish they did," he told journalists in the county.
However, Haki Africa official Francis Auma dismissed his claim of abandonment saying they have been in touch for a long time.
