A family in Chemosoren village, Bomet County, is grieving after their two-year-old child tragically died from an electric shock while visiting a neighbour’s home.
The young child had accompanied her mother, who works as a househelp, to the residence.
According to local reports, the mother was busy with household chores when the toddler wandered into a bedroom.
While exploring, the child inserted a pair of scissors into a live electrical socket, leading to a fatal electric shock.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwanga confirmed the incident, describing it as a heartbreaking accident.
“The child was under her mother’s care, but unfortunately, in a brief moment, she got into a dangerous situation,” he said.
Neighbours and family members were shocked when the toddler was found lying lifeless on the floor, still holding the scissors.
The tragedy has left the community in mourning, with many describing the incident as a painful reminder of how quickly accidents can happen around young children.
Mercy Chebet, the child’s mother, spoke through her grief, saying she did not notice her daughter leave her side.
“I was busy with my work and never realized she had gone into the bedroom. I am devastated,” she said.
Police, with the help of Kenya Power technicians, removed the child’s body and later transported it to Kapkatet mortuary.
The family is now making funeral arrangements while grappling with the sudden loss.
Authorities urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant, especially when small children are around electrical appliances and outlets.

Community leaders have called on parents to ensure that children are kept away from potential hazards and reminded households to take precautionary measures to prevent similar accidents.
Residents of Chemosoren village have expressed deep sympathy for the family, emphasizing the importance of constant supervision of toddlers at home.
Many have also urged families to be cautious around electrical outlets, cords, and appliances to avoid repeat tragedies.
