Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has issued a strong warning to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, against fielding a candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election scheduled for November.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant earlier this year following the death of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator Moses Malulu Injendi.

Natembeya, a vocal critic of emerging political outfits, maintained that the move by DCP to venture into the Malava contest could destabilize the political balance in Western Kenya.

He noted that the region is already experiencing heightened political activity, with several parties eyeing the seat as a platform to strengthen their influence ahead of 2027.

The Governor’s remarks underscore the growing rivalry between established parties and newer entrants seeking to expand their footprint in competitive regions.

Analysts say the Malava by-election is likely to attract significant attention as it will serve as a litmus test for shifting loyalties.

The outcome could reshape alliances and set the stage for broader national political realignments.
