A family in Murang’a is mourning deeply after a woman and her daughter died in a tragic accident along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The married woman had reportedly spoken to her husband for the last time shortly before the crash, asking him to send her some money to buy snacks for their children.

Relatives said the family was headed to Nakuru when their journey was cut short by a collision that claimed several lives.

The woman’s husband revealed that his attempts to reach her later in the evening went unanswered.

Hours later, a relative called to inform him about the accident, leaving him devastated.

In Kandara Constituency, three homesteads that were home to the extended family quickly turned into mourning grounds.

Locals described the accident as one of the worst to hit the area, saying it had wiped out an entire lineage in one morning.

Elders from the village reported that the family was widely known across Kahiga, Kangui and Gacharage, and the sudden deaths had left a heavy silence in the community.

The crash resulted in the deaths of sixteen family members, including grandparents, parents, sisters, and children.

Survivors, including a young boy, remain in hospital as relatives pray for their recovery.

At the homesteads, neighbours and friends gathered in large numbers, offering comfort as grief overwhelmed the family.

The tragedy has also placed a financial strain on the bereaved.

Relatives disclosed that hospital and mortuary bills were already running into millions, adding that burial preparations would require even more resources.

They appealed for government and public assistance as they struggled to cope with both emotional and financial devastation.
