Detectives have shed light on the shocking murder case of Faith Kemunto, a 20-year-old from Nyamira whose life was cut short just as she prepared to join university.
Investigators reported that Gideon Makori, also known as Giddy, was arrested alongside Vinic Kemunto, the Nairobi woman accused of sheltering him after the killing.
The two were captured on Wednesday evening at Huruma Estate, where Giddy had been hiding following weeks of manhunt by police.
The pair was presented before Nyamira Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochieng on Friday.
They did not take a plea after the prosecution, led by Ms Vane Mochama, requested more time for investigations.
The prosecution explained that detectives required 21 days to record statements from key witnesses, finalise the exhumation process, and conduct DNA tests on the recovered body believed to be Faith’s.
Ms Mochama stated that the investigating officer needed additional time to gather full evidence, including DNA results from the exhumed body, which was being preserved at Nyamira Referral Mortuary.
The court granted the request and ordered that Giddy and his alleged accomplice be remanded at Nyamira Police Station until October 29, 2025.
Faith had been missing since July 30. After a month of searching, her suspected killer was said to have led her relatives to Maosi village, where her body had been buried in a shallow grave.
Detectives from the homicide unit later exhumed the remains under court orders.
The arrest of Giddy and the woman who harboured him has added a fresh twist to the case, which continues to draw public outrage and grief.
Investigations remain ongoing as the country awaits justice for Faith Kemunto.
