Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has addressed growing speculation over the health of his brother, ODM leader Raila Odinga, assuring Kenyans that he is in good condition.
Speaking in Ugunja on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Oburu clarified that Raila is recuperating after a routine medical check-up in India.
He stated that contrary to rumours circulating online, Raila is neither gravely ill nor hospitalised.
According to Oburu, the former Prime Minister is resting under his doctors’ advice and will soon resume his public engagements.
“There have been false claims suggesting Raila is very sick or incapacitated, but I want to confirm that he is fine and recovering,” Oburu said.
He explained that like any ordinary Kenyan, Raila chose to travel abroad for a medical review and is expected to return shortly.
Oburu made the remarks while accompanying ODM’s Moses Omondi, who was being cleared by IEBC to contest the Ugunja parliamentary seat.
He assured supporters that Raila remains strong and focused, urging Kenyans to ignore misleading reports about his health.
His statement came just two days after Ida Odinga, Raila’s wife, also dismissed the circulating claims.
Speaking in Migori, she questioned how outsiders could claim to know her husband’s condition better than his own family.
Ida made it clear that, Raila is only taking a short rest following a busy political schedule and that his health should not be a matter of speculation.
Both she and Oburu urged Kenyans to disregard rumours and trust official family updates.
Their clarifications have eased growing public anxiety as supporters await Raila’s return to the country.
The Odinga family maintains that “Baba is fine” and continues to recover well under medical guidance.
