Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi has reignited claims that a 2019 plot to assassinate then–Deputy President William Ruto was real, insisting that he has video evidence and court documents to back his assertions.

Speaking during an interview on the Iko Nini podcast on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Itumbi maintained that the alleged meeting at a Nairobi hotel, where senior government officials reportedly discussed ways to stop Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions, was not a fabrication as earlier suggested.

“The meeting happened, and I have evidence — video recordings and court records — that confirm what I said back then,” Itumbi stated, adding that he was unfairly targeted for revealing the alleged plot.

He claimed the information he shared in 2019 originated from credible sources within the government.

At the time, Itumbi was arrested and charged with publishing false information after alleging that a group of top government officials, dubbed the “La Mada team,” had met to discuss plans against Ruto.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later dismissed the claims as baseless, saying no credible evidence supported them.

However, in his latest remarks, Itumbi argued that recent political developments and unsealed documents vindicate his earlier statements. “Kenyans deserve to know the truth. I stood by it then, and I stand by it now,” he said.

His comments have stirred fresh debate online, with supporters of President Ruto backing his claims while critics accuse him of reigniting old political controversies.

Authorities have yet to respond to Itumbi’s renewed assertions, but his remarks have once again brought to light one of the most controversial political sagas of the pre-2022 election period.
